About Godless HavenWelcome to the website! Since 2008, I, Taylor, have been running Godless Haven as an outlet for my own thoughts on religion, philosophy, and atheism. Here I host a good number of articles on the subjects, in addition to book and video reviews, as well as what I call "God Talk." God Talks are collected from actual conversations I have had with others - generally religious believers - about the nature of their beliefs and the nature of mine. I hold the opinion that, in order to be respectable in our views, we ought to seriously consider the multiple sides of any argument, and for this reason, I critique and examine the works of all types here: religious, spiritual, agnostic, or atheist. What is the purpose of Godless Haven? This site is not intended to be an "apologetics" resource for atheism, and because of this there is no "mission statement" for Godless Haven. Rather, I intend this site to be more like the proverbial drawing board. What I publish here are ideas, arguments, critiques, and essays. There will be a large amount of counter-apologetics, but conversion is not an aim behind any of my work. I write on these subjects because of personal interest, and I wish to share that interest with you, and hopefully learn more myself in the process. I have chosen the name Godless Haven to represent the site as being a place of respite from the cacophony of a predominantly and overtly religious world. Although the site initially started as a hobby, I continue trying to improve both the quality of my content and the quality of the design. As a result, Godless Haven has become more formal and research-oriented than when it first began, and yet I still strive to make my material accessible and enjoyable to a lay audience. What sets this site apart from other atheist sites? Certainly there are a number of great atheist websites on the internet, and I cannot promise Godless Haven will have anything you have not seen anywhere else. However, I can tell you that there is a variety of content here, from politics and science to philosophy and textual criticism. I often spend 7-8 hours researching and writing each article, and I cite sources wherever necessary. Because reason and evidence are that important to me, I am more than willing to hear out dissenting opinions, and I update my work to reflect any change of mind on my part. Then, of course, there is the entertainment aspect, provided by things like the God Talks, which sometimes break down into heated verbal battles.
About the Author:
My interest in religion did not end with my deconversion. Currently, I am pursuing a Religious Studies degree, possibly with a specialty in textual analysis. I have read a lot of scholarly works, apologetic books, and other religious documents, in addition to historical writings, political texts, and more. I like to write as much as I like to read, I am an HTML and Photoshop nerd, and before this site I ran a music and guitar website for 5 years. I have had articles published in both the American Atheists and Secular World magazines, and my critique of Lee Strobel's bestseller, The Case for Christ, has been reprinted on CaseAgainstFaith.com. I will be happy to respond to any email inquiries about my content here, my beliefs (past or present), and so forth, but I do ask for your patience if I don't reply quickly. If you are interested in supporting my work, I do accept Paypal donations on the homepage, and there is also a link to the store in the menu bar, where you may purchase bumper stickers, t-shirts, and other things to help promote the site. I am very grateful for all support, though, even if you simply link to an article or tell a friend. My thanks in advance to those of you who help in any way.
